VIPER
ISLAND
Viper Island is near Port Blair in Andaman district in
the Andaman Islands, the capital of the Andaman and Nicobar
Islands, a union territory of India and was the site of
the jail where the British used to emprison convicts and
political prisoners. It has the ruins of a gallows atop
a hillock.
CELLULAR JAIL
The Cellular Jail, also known as Kala Pani - literally
`black water`, in the sense of deep sea and hence exile),
was a colonial prison situated in the Andaman and Nicobar
Islands, India. The prison was used by the British especially
to exile political prisoners to the remote archipelago.
Many notable freedom fighters such as Batukeshwar Dutt
and Veer Savarkar, among others, were imprisoned here
during the struggle for India`s independence. Today, the
complex serves as a national memorial monument.
CORAL
ISLAND (NORTH BAY)
to see coral reefs, exotic varieties of beautiful ornamental
fish and other marine life. This is an ideal place for
snorkeling as this sandy beach coupled with clear water
creates a breathtaking spectacle.
ROSS ISLAND
the former residential and administrative island of the
British during their rule of South East Asia, was nick
named the Paris of the East. This island was completely
destroyed in an earthquake, now in ruins.
CORBYN`S COVE BEACH
7 kms from Port Blair - a coconut palm fringed beach,
ideal for swimming, sun-basking & bathing.
FORT
MUSEUM
Forest Museum, set up by the Forest Department, is located
at Haddo in Andaman District of Andaman and Nicobar Islands.
The museum exhibits the ornamental pieces made of various
types of timber such as paduak, oak, peauma, gurjan and
satin wood.
FISHERIES MUSEUM
The Andaman and Nicobar Islands Fisheries Museum is located
close to the Andaman Water Sports Complex. This museum
is an ideal place to visit for the tourists who are interested
in marine life. The Fisheries Museum of Andaman and Nicobar
Islands houses as many as 350 different species of marine
life. The Fisheries Museum in Andaman and Nicobar Islands
remains closed on national holidays and Mondays.
